Cable/Harness Testing Made Easy.

Creating a cable/harness test standard that represents the interests of a broad cross-section of industry is a significant challenge.  Two organizations of which we have been long-time members have joined to make this goal happen.  We want to bring you up to date with what is happening and encourage your input before the test standard reaches the balloting stage.

Also this month we have more ideas to help you visualize how to create fixturing that meets your needs.

If you have any questions or comments, call us at 1-800-441-9910.

During the last 30 days the test committee has made significant progress on developing a test section to be added to the popular A-620 standard "Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies".  Not aware of the A-620 Standard? Learn more, or purchase a copy of the current version (without the test section) from either of the two sponsoring organizations:

   IPC.org, and
   WHMA.org

If things progress well, revision A of the standard, including the chapter on testing, will be released this year.

The A-620 standard encourages the agreed upon use of specific test requirements, or requirements defined by the buyer and/or the assembler of the cable/harness.  If test requirements are not otherwise defined between the buyer and the assembler, it does require specific tests to be performed.  To see a brief summary of the proposed default test requirements go to:

    A-620 Summary

From this same page you can also request a copy of the working draft of the new test section.  The WHMA/IPC A-620 test-section working group would like to have your feedback on this important new chapter.

A-620 is being revised to add Cable Testing.

If you use a Signature series cable tester you probably use a number of our standard adapters.  However, of the tens of thousands of connectors in use, Cirris offers only about 300 of the more popular connectors as standard adapter cards.  Many people find it acceptable to just create a small adapting cable to mate to specific connectors.  If you want something more "structured and permanent" Cirris offers a number of adapting solutions.  We now have added a photo gallery of different custom solutions to help you better visualize the solution that might work best for you.  See this gallery of idea solutions at:
